The Growth in Transition initiative has been addressing the issues of economic growth, prosperity and quality of life for 15 years.
In October 2023, the association “Wachstum im Wandel Österreich” was founded and is based on the original initiative “Wachstum im Wandel” (existing since 2008) and an initiative of the Ministry of the Environment, in which numerous institutions, NGOs, individuals and companies have participated.
The association invites institutions, organizations and companies as well as individuals to address issues of growth, prosperity and quality of life.
In line with the initiative, the discourse on future issues will continue to take center stage in the future: “What kind of growth is sustainable?”, “How can a bridge be built between the economy, ecology and social justice?”, but also “What should grow and what should not?”. We aim to look at these questions from different perspectives and in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary way based on the expertise of the diverse partners.
Sophia Kratz (Umweltdachverband), Hannah Desaler and Fritz Hinterberger (Club of Rome, Austrian Chapter) were elected to the first board: Together we are again planning larger events as well as smaller-scale discourses, publications and the continuation of the website. The fortnightly Stamm*Tisch and the current three-monthly Wachstum im Wandel breakfasts are already very popular.
Representatives of ministries, NGOs and companies have already expressed their great interest in the association. In 2026, Thomas Höpler joined the board.
We invite you and your organization to become part of the Growth in Transition initiative (again).
We are always happy to answer your questions.
Sophia Kratz, Thomas Höpler, and Fritz Hinterberger
